Ooty

From nature walks in gardens that makes one wonder whether Paradise, as depicted in scriptures of various cultures, have actually been derived from such sensory experiences to relaxing over a cup of tea from the tea plantations dotting the hillside, only to realize most humbly of nature’s gifts as a bountiful provider, the tourist places in Ooty can be expected to resuscitate the soul, depleted of its spiritual reserves through the trials of everyday existence.

Ooty, once the summer capital of Madras Presidency under the British, can be safely regarded as “India’s Switzerland”. John Sullivan, the then collector of Coimbatore had noted the same in his elaborate report on the region, way back in the 19th century. After independence, Ooty was developed into a major tourist destination and understandably so, given its qualification for the same, owing to nature’s abundant blessings in terms of climate, scenic splendour, local sights and sounds, its wealth of birds and beasts and of course its homegrown beverages of tea and coffee.

The majestic “Queen of the Hills” forms part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve, reputed for its fragile and exquisite ecosystem. In the ecological parlance, it is best known as a “hotspot”, the label justifying the designation of the section of the Western Ghats as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Ooty has been developed to offer a rare glimpse to tourists of the essence of the rest of the reserve, much of which are out of bounds as part of conservation efforts.

The wooded hills of the Western Ghats with its canopy of unkempt, untouched shola vegetation interspersed with maintained and cultivated tea gardens offer a rare view of the symbiotic existence of man and nature where one can see and learn what sustainable use of natural resources should ideally look like. The botanical garden and rose garden curate much of the bounty of nature at Ooty to mesmerizing effect. One has to see the tourist places in Ooty it to believe in the gifts of life, otherwise often conveniently overlooked.

Excellent
The drive to the location is scenic and if you love driving, then it is a double-treat. We reached around 2 PM in the afternoon last weekend and yes, it was raining but intermittently. We enjoyed the rainy weather a lot. Kids had an absolutely wonderful experience with some of the activities on site like playing in the slushy mud, rain dance, and of course we spend a good amount of time in the water stream that passes around this camping site. No, it's not a river... it is a big water stream that flows from the hills around the site. The staff is extremely helpful, and Aditya who manages the site is a great person. He can also talk in Hindi and English fluently, not just Kannada. So, you will never have to worry about communication issues. The food was super delicious all through lunch, dinner and breakfast... served hot. In fact, when we arrived at the site we were the only guests there and that earned us brownie points in specifying the menu for both lunch and dinner. We did not stay in the tents that were available as we had two kids who were less than five years old and didn't want the weather to affect their health. Next time for sure though. The cottages were well-maintained and we stayed in one of them. The surrounding scenery is breathtaking with the stream flowing right in front of the cottages. Overall, a fantastic place to unwind and relax... and have fun with the various activities. A big thank you to the staff for making our stay a memorable one. I for one would surely like to revisit this place and stay for more than a day. And, in the rainy season! Cheers!
"It was a great experience. Having had no experience of this sort before, I was in dilemma to book it or no. However, It was lot of fun, we covered all the locations in less time than scheduled. "
This homestay is at the top of the hill and a maximum of 12-15 people can be accommodated at a time . You feel at one with nature and can sit watching the hills for ever . The couple who host this place are very warm and make you feel at home. Extremely clean and tasty food add to the experience. I would love to go back and recommend this to any one who wants a calm get away with their family and friends.
Excellent
A secluded home stay in the middle of jungle and mountains with little to no connectivity to the city. The jeep ride from hanbal to the spot is hell of a journey, you’ll remember forever. The view point from the spot is amazing and out of the world. However, beware of leeches if you’re going in monsoons. It’s a perfect weekend gateway if you want to relax with your family and friends.
Excellent
"it was an awesome experience, Stay was good and Karthik arranged trekking, visit to less known water fall and and a hill station view and shooting point... Everything was awesome. the Time we choose to visit chikmagalur was just perfect (Aug 31 to Sep2). it was cool weather there with slight raining and drizzling. Superb
The campaign was great and the activities were sorted out. We went on a Thursday which ensured that we had the whole place to us and hence we were more at peace. The food can be improved.

Vinoth Kumar Subramani Nature Homestay in Chikmagalur
Excellent
My family along with my friend's family had visited Chikmagalur for 3 days trip. The stay in your estate was very good. The food you served was extremely good in quality. My two year old baby had the same food what we had and she was very comfortable with the same. The only thing which needs attention is geyser. It took more time to get the water heated. Other then that, the rooms, washrooms etc., are all very good.
