Canopy Hill, Vattakanal

One of the best places to visit in Kodaikanal offers you a grand show of nature with the background music of the birds. The mountain peaks are covered with green grass, moving clouds and fresh air. You get an excuse to do a 15 KM trek in the dense Western Ghat forest while easily spotting some wildlife creatures like Bison, wild goats, porcupines, etc.

Dolphins Nose

No prizes for guessing that Dolphin’s Nose in Kodaikanal is a viewpoint on a rock that is shaped like a dolphin’s nose. Several people trek up this route to descend to this point. You wouldn’t have trouble understanding when your trek comes to an end, because the fast-flowing Catherine Falls will shout out to you to celebrate half of your hike.

It is a dangerous route though because one has to climb back up which is steep and challenging for many. Green Valley View

Thalaiyar Falls

Berijam Lake

Silver Cascade Falls

The Silver Cascade Waterfall resembles its name in every essence. It is a pit stop on the way to Madurai, and it claims one’s scenic attention like nothing else! Poombarai

After visiting all the tourist places in Kodaikanal, you should drive down for some 18 KM away from Kodaikanal on a sloping road in Palani hills, and Poombarai is where you reach. It is a small village with a very less population of around 6000 people. It is famous for its pungent garlic cultivation. Whereas, the focal point of the village is a temple known as the Kuzhanthai Velappar Temple which is around 3000 years old.

Once you are done with this then you must travel for 21 KM to reach Berijam lake which is the ultimate untouched paradise as you have to get permission from the Forest Department to have access to the lake. If you manage that then you will be presented with a nature walk where you can see Grasslands and Sholas, museum and a medicinal garden.

Subramanya temple (Kartikeya Temple)

It is one of the marvellous places to visit in Kodaikanal as it is a 3000 years old temple situated on Sivagiri which is located approximately 65KM away from Kodaikanal in Palani. They say when Lord Kartikeya lost the golden fruit to his brother Lord Ganesha, he ran from Kailash Parvat to Sivagiri in anger.

It has a very artistic structure engraved on its top as well as the view is eye-catching from that height. You don’t have to pay anything but will have to climb around 659 steps to reach the temple. Though you can visit the temple at any time of the year but is advised to visit the temple in the months of January and April when the festival Thaipusam and Panguni Uthiram is respectively conducted.

Moir Point

Mother Sallette Church

This Tamil-French architecture stands proudly amidst ‘The Gift of the Forest’, making one of the attractions in Kodaikanal. Vattakanal Falls

Kukkal Caves

Kukkal Caves in Kodaikanal is a treat for the city owing to its deep history of giving refuge to the Palaiyar tribes. Guna Caves

The Guna Caves in Kodaikanal have an engrossing history; it is believed that the Pandavas used to cook their meals in these caves, and hence it was initially called The Devil’s Kitchen. The name was later changed in the ’90s when the film Guna was shot here.

The caves are hugged by three gigantic rock pillars and are sheltered by the Shola trees. It is a place that some find risky, and some find rousing due to its altitude, steep drops, and cliffs. You cannot visit the caves anymore since they are now jailed for people’s safety, but it is still worthy of your time to even set your eye on it from a distance as you walk through the pine forest.

Mannavanur Lake

Situated 34 KM away from Kodaikanal in village Mannavanur, one of the best attractions in Kodaikanal, Mannavanur Lake is accessible on any day of the week. This lake is inside a sheep farm. This lake offers you a walk through eucalyptus and pine trees on both sides of its avenue. You can even spot a flock of sheep grazing on the lush meadows and birds cherishing their freedom.

Kurangani Hills

One of the amazing tourist places in Kodaikanal, Kurangani hills are accessible from Bodinayakanur in Theni Dist. You first have to reach the village Kurangani and then from there you get the chance to trek for 12 KM through the graceful gift of nature, which takes around 4-5 hours. Kumbakkarai Falls

Streaming along Kodai-Vellagavi-Periyakulam footpath in Theni district, one of the not to miss tourist places in Kodaikanal Kumbakkarai falls ebb in two stages. First, the water collects in the rocks which are each named after wild animals from where they enter their second stage. This stage is of a 5 KM flow in Pambar river which takes them to their final destination and convert them into a waterfall.

Chettiar Park

One of the beautiful attractions in Kodaikanal, this park could be visited any day of the week. It is located at a distance of 3.2 KM from the main Bus stand. You can visit this when you are heading towards or coming back from Kurunji Temple as it is on the way to it. You will find a wide range of fascinating flowering in the garden giving this whole garden a colourful view which are worth capturing in your frame for which you will have to pay Rs 25 per still camera.

Kurinji flowers, which bloom once in 12 years also have a special place in the garden and the last they bloomed in 2004. Whenever they bloom, they create a unique purple haze everywhere which is worthy for the wait of 12 years.

Shembaganur Museum of Natural History

A team of students under Spanish Father E Ugarte have given their all to preserve their teacher’s collections of butterflies, moths, and birds which is kept at Shembaganur Museum of Natural History. It covers wide-ranging history from handicrafts, flora, fauna and anthropology.

There are more than 300 species of plants, trees, mammals, butterflies, etc. which you can see and gain insights about them. Anna Salai Market

Anna Salai Market is one of the definite places to visit in Kodaikanal. It is an impression of the metropolitan culture of Kodaikanal where there is a rainbow of people. Wax Museum

A very good place perfect to visit with family or with friends group. The food was nice and beds were comfortable, an on-time pickup was there and the staff greeted us well right from the entering in the campsite. We had a wonderful stay with no problems and with good co-travelers. We will visit again for sure. Recommended.

The forest and greenery make this place so beautiful and the weather was so pleasant. It was a nice break from the hustle-bustle of the city. we went for sightseeing the tea and spice plantations, dam, lake, and many more places. The hotel was also very nice and even the food was delicious. It was a good experience.

It was a nice experience and the campsite is very well maintained as per the location. The staff here is helpful and the bonfire was amazing. We enjoyed our time here and performed many activities. Our camps were big enough and properly hygienic. We stayed here for one night but worth it, Highly recommended.
