Among the most famous historical places of Hyderabad, Golconda Fort tops the list. This 400-year-old historic monument located in the western part of the city attracts a lot of architecture and history lovers. Golconda Fort has the world-famous diamond mine and was once the home of the Kohinoor Diamond.

Golconda Fort was also once the house and the administrative center of the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb. The massive fort is one of the untouched grandeur of India and from the top of the fort, one can see the marvelous streets of western Hyderabad.

Located in the heart of the city, Char Minar is among the most famous historical places in Hyderabad. With more than 400 years old, Char Minar reflects the foundation of the rich culture of Hyderabad. Situated amidst the popular Laad and Chudi Bazaar of Hyderabad, Char Minar attracts many Indian as well as international tourists. 

With its Indo-Islamic and Persian style of architecture, Char Minar is an architectural marvel. Initially, it was built as a Madarsa or a Mosque and due to this, the locals and some visitors offer their prayers in Char Minar.

Housing the tombs of the members of the Qutub Shahi Dynasty, Qutub Shahi Tombs are among the top historical places in Hyderabad. Located in the Ibrahim Bagh, Qutub Shahi Tombs are built-in Mughal Style of architecture in a dome-shaped structure.

Reflecting the power and richness of the Qutub Shahi Dynasty, the tombs here are built-in single and double-storeyed structures. The walls here are engraved with art and design of the ancient Shahi style. Also, inside the Qutub Shahi Tombs complex, one would find the Great Mosque where people offer their prayers.

One of the oldest Mosques in the city, Mecca Masjid or Makkah Masjid is the largest mosque in India which can accommodate around 10,000 people in it. Built from 1614 to 1694 by Muhammad Quli Qutub and his family, Mecca Mosque is an architectural wonder reflecting the rich lifestyle of the Quli Dynasty and it is one of the best historical places in Hyderabad.

It is located close to Charminar and can be easily reached from any corner of the town. Along with Chowmahalla Palace, Laad Bazaar and Char Minar, Mecca Masjid is one of the famous historical places in Hyderabad.

Built in the 18th Century, Chowmahalla Palace is a splendid monument which housed the Asaf Jahi Dynasty and the Nizams of Hyderabad. With domes style architecture inherited from the Nizam period, Chowmahalla Palace is one of the most popular historical places in Hyderabad.

The palace complex includes some wonderful fountains, lush gardens and places like Clock Tower, Roshan Bangla, and numerous small palaces. The vast courtyard of the palace was once the venue of popular religious festivities and important meetings. A must-visit event in the palace is the Annual Chowmahalla Music and Dance festival where one can witness numerous mind-blowing performances.

Taramati Baradari is an ancient and historical Sarai which was built in the 1880s. Baradari is a building with 12 open doors to allow free-flow of air and Taramati Baradari is one of its kind monument in Hyderabad. It is located along the Musi river near the Persian-style garden, Ibrahim Bagh and is very close to Golconda Fort and it is one of the best historical places in Hyderabad.

Taramati Baradari is now an open complex with an auditorium that can accommodate around 1600 people. Alongside an auditorium, the Baradari also has an air-cool theatre, a banquet hall and a very famous multi-cuisine restaurant.

Among the historical places of Hyderabad, Malwala Palace is one of the oldest palaces dating back to the 17th century. This historical monument is located in the Moghalpura area of Hyderabad.

Malwala Palace adopts its architecture from the early styles of the Rajputana Kingdom and the finest Mughal architectural patterns. The palace has some of the rare design patterns with a special teak wood style furniture. The palace is located on the eastern side of Char Minar.

Located in the Karvan suburb of Hyderabad, this majestic, giant, and flamboyant mosque is only 2 km away from Golconda Fort. Among the historical places of Hyderabad, Toli Mosque or Damdi Masjid is considered one of the finest places in the city.  Its brilliant Qutb Shahi style of architecture is breathtaking and attracts many tourists from all over India. 

Constructed in 1671, the front side of the mosque has 5 arches or openings which have lotus designs on them. There are two pillars embarked on two sides of the mosque and each of the pillars is around 20 meters tall. The mosque is also popular in the locality for its cleanliness.

The oldest and one of the famous historical places in Hyderabad, Thousand Pillar Temple or Sri Rudreshwar Temple is located in a small town of Hanamkonda near Hyderabad. The temple is estimated to be built between 1175 to 1324 by King Ruda of the Kakatiya dynasty and is dedicated to Lord Shiva, Lord Vishnu, and Lord Surya. 

Thousand Pillar Temple is considered a masterpiece in architecture due to its varied and unique architecture. The thousand pillars of the temple are carved with various patterns and designs of animals like elephants and cows. The sculpture pattern of the Kakatiya Dynasty is one of a kind and is only visible in this temple.

Among the historical places in Hyderabad, Paigah Tombs is one of the widely visited places. Located in the Pisal Banda region and in the interiors of Hyderabad, The tombs is the resting place of the members of the Paigah family who were the loyal patrons to the Nizams and houses more than 100 tombs of the Paigah family

Paigah Tomb is an architectural marvel made out of lime and mortar and some of the most beautiful marble carvings. With amazing floral designs and marvelous architectural pattern on the tombs, Paigah Tombs are decorated in a very fine way.

Among the most popular historical places in Hyderabad, Hussain Sagar Lake tops the list. It is renowned as Asia’s largest Artificial Lake and was built in 1563. The lake is popular for the big monolith of Lord Buddha which is situated at the heart of the lake. Also, the lake has a 3 km long dam wall that connects the twin city of Hyderabad Secunderabad. 

The lake is bordered by Indira Park, Sanjeevaiah Park, and Lumbini Park on 3 sides and is a very popular getaway place from the city. Due to its heart-shaped design and bordering, the lake is declared as the “heart of the world” by the United Nations World Tourism Organization.

The most luxurious hotel of Hyderabad, Falaknuma Palace is a very prestigious place in Hyderabad. Taj Falaknuma Palace is located on a hillock of around 2000 meters above the city of  Hyderabad and is a popular hotel among the royal guests.

The palace was once the home of the Paigah family and then it was owned by the Nizam of Hyderabad. It covers an area of 32 acres and is only 5 km from Charminar. The palace is entirely made up of Italian marble and Italian architecture design and has around 60 rooms which have a considerable collection of Nizami paintings, statues, books, and Venetian chandeliers.

One of the historical places of Hyderabad from the golden era, Purani Haveli is a remarkable structure that was built to serve the Peshwa Mir Momen of Mohammed Quli Qutub. The haveli is one of the finest monuments of Hyderabad which functions as an art gallery and museum.

There are many things for tourists to see here like the longest wardrobe of the world, magical artwork of the Quli Dynasty and much more. With its 18th-century European style architecture, Purani Haveli also has antique furniture, big lawns, gardens, and exquisite tile work on the walls.

Due to its church-like look and the influence of Spanish architectural style, Spanish Mosque is one of a kind mosque in India. It is located within the Paigah Palace Begumpet in the north of Hyderabad.  Spanish Mosque is also known as Masjid Iqbal Ud Daula or Jam-e- Masjid Aiwan-E-Begumpet and can accommodate around 2500 people. 

The other and unpopular name of the Spanish Mosque is Mosque of the Moors because of its Moorish or Hispanic style of architecture. The mosque is a very popular place and is a landmark masjid for the Muslim community of Secunderabad city.
