Best Places To Visit In Chhattisgarh

Situated in the Northern part of Mahasamund district, the wildlife sanctuary was established during 1976 on a huge area of 245 Sq.km. The sanctuary is a huge hit and ranks the seventh position in the popular attractions of Raipur.

Highlights – Lying on a flat and terrain area, the sanctuary gives shelter to number of Tigers, leopards, porcupine, pythons, antelopes, bison and many other species. As you walk in through the muddy paths, parrots, herons, egrets, black bucks, porcupines, monkeys, pea fowl and other species are sure to catch your attention, and you are sure to get surprised by seeing the barking deers. 

Location – This richly vegetated unique wildlife sanctuary is 100Kms away from Raipur and 45kms away from Mahasamund City

Timings – The sanctuary is open on all days from 7AM to 6PM

RajivaLochana Mandir literally means “the beautiful one-eyes” and represents Lord Vishnu. The temple depicts significantly the example of the architecture of Mahakosala.

Highlights – The temple consists of twelve pillars, each of the pillars are beautifully carved with figures of various God and Goddess like – Lord Vishnu, Lord Rama, Lord Narasimha and Goddess Durga. Standing at the congregation of three rivers – Pairy, Sondhu and Mahanadi, the temple impresses its tourists with its main design made of Chaitya arch wooden motif. If you observe closely you can also make out that the shrine entrance has been adorned with the sculptures of Snake Goddess.

Location – The temple located in Rajim, near Raipur was built during the 8th century

The Warangal ancestral deity of the Chalukya kings got established as Danteshwari near the congregation of Dankini River and Shankini River and hence this place was named as Danteshwari.

Highlights – This temple is built in dedication to Goddess Danteshwari, the highlight of this temple is that this is one of the 52 Shakthi peethas in the Whole country. As per the legends this is the place where the tooth or Daanth of Sati fell during the Satya Yuga. The Goddess is taken out for a huge procession during the Dusshera time and hence tourists can pay homage to this temple during this time and also light the Jyoti Kalashas.

Location – The temple is situated in Dantewada to the south-west of Jagdalpur

The waters of River Indr?vati flows from the Vindhu Mountain range to form the Chitrakot waterfalls. Often called as India’s Niagara Falls, this is the top attraction and largest waterfalls of India and is great to visit during the rainy season.

Highlights – This horse shaped wonderful waterfalls is dense and thickly forested, giving the spectators a great view to enjoy. The areas surrounding the waterfalls are simply stunning and captivating. The beauty of the place enhances as you watch the birds sitting at the corners of the waterfalls, the gushing noise from the waterfalls will linger in your ears even after you come out of the waterfalls.

Location- The waterfalls is located around 50 km away from Jagdalpur of Bastar District and hardly 270 Km from Raipur

Built in memory of Former Prime Minister LT. Rajeev Gandhi, this place is a unique Ex- situ conservation site. Built over a huge area of 14 acres, this Van was developed to create public awareness towards conservation of Nature.

Highlights – The unique feature of Rajeev Smriti Van is that everything over here runs on Solar Energy, this is a must visit place mainly if you are travelling with your kids. It gives a marvellous view and explains about the nature, trees and environment. Once you are completely done exploring this Van, you can visit the nearby attractions like Balaji Temple, Bastar, Arang, Champaran and Bhilai

Location –This Van is located hardly 12 km away from Raipur city

A rare heritage property is this Mahakoshal art Gallery. This art gallery showcases all the artwork of the local people, the building also hosts a number of art exhibitions.

Highlights – The limelight of the art gallery is that the gallery is in the octagon shape and hence is a centre of attraction for tourists visiting Raipur. It is reviewed that this gallery itself is a piece of art to be explored. The visitors after exploring this white stone gallery can go down to nearby places like Shaheed Smarak complex, Bastar, Arang, Gandhi Udyan Park and Bhilai. 

Location – This gallery stands tall in the heart of Raipur adjacent to Mahant Ghasidas Museum and is hardly a KM away from Jaistambh Chowk.

Purkhauti Muktangan is developed by the Cultural Department of Chhattisgarh Government and is spread over a huge 18 hectare of land. It exhibits the entire natural resources with existing industries and infrastructures.

Highlights – The building is a sole tourist attraction spot as it captured a place in the VISION 2020. This is a nice place to understand the culture of the local tribes and gives a lot of knowledge to the kids. Everything is available inside the premises, so you and your family can roam around and explore the place leisurely; the key highlight is that you can see the Whole of Chhattisgarh under one roof at this theme park cum museum, catch the glimpse of models like Kawardha, Folk dance model and Jagdalpur forest at this gallery.

Want to get back into the glorious past and explore all those ancient temples? Visit Bhoramdeo Temple, this temple was constructed somewhere during the 7th -11th century and is called as the Khajuraho of Chhattisgarh.

If there is any spot that will provide you with a combination of fun, entertainment, picnic and adventure, it is this Tirathgarh Falls at the Kanger Valley national Park. This is one of the best-known picnic spots in Jagdalpur as well.

Highlights – The most stunning waterfalls in the whole of Chhattisgarh is this waterfall, the limelight of this waterfall is that the falls over here split into multiple falls as it flows down and gives a Stunning view for the spectators. This is also an ecotourism spot as it enjoins the Kanger Valley national park. When you are done with seeing/enjoying this 300 feet fall, you can spend some spiritual time at the small temple that is located opposite to the falls over a huge rock.

Location – Towards the South-west of Jagdalpur at a distance of 35Km lies this magnificent waterfalls.

Established during 1982, the Kanger Valley National Park is bounded by numerous villages on all of its sides. Deriving its name from the Kanger River, this National Park Is declared as one of the Asian Biosphere Reserve.

Highlights – The highlight of this Park is its Location and surrounding, the Park is surrounded by a rich biodiversity of fauna like Chikara, barking deer, Chital, jackal, hyena, wild boar, buck, drongo and some rare mouse deer. You can show your kids the animal world over here instead of showing them in the animal book, apart from this, the rich flora like fungi, algae, bryophytes and pteridophytes add beauty to the park. Last but not the least complete the trip by taking the Safari rides.

Location – Situated on river Kolab, this 34Km long park is 27 km away from Jagdalpur

If you have a keen interest in architecture or history, you should probably visit the Mahant Ghasidas Memorial museum when you come to Raipur. Established by Raja Mahant Ghasidas during 1875, the museum is more of a preservation site that houses various objects of Anthropology, natural history, archaeology, paintings and Arts, Crafts.

Highlights – The museum’s library deserves a special mention as the second-floor stocks some of the finest collection of images, coins, sculptures, inscriptions and other items, on the other hand the first house showcases objects relating to nature including various mammals, birds, snakes and more.

Kailash and Kotusmar Cave is not only a unique cave, but is also the second longest cave in the whole world. The cave discovered in 1993 stretches to an area of 100m.

Highlights – The uniqueness of the cave is that it can’t be accessed beyond a certain point due to lack of oxygen flow inside the deep cave. This two-kilometer-deep cave looks stunningly gigantic amidst the dense forests. Want to get some fun? Clap your hands inside the cave and you will hear back musical sounds vibrating from the hollow walls. Once you are done exploring the cave, pay a visit to the adjacent Kanger National park also

Location – The cave is located just beside the Tirathgarh Waterfalls and about 40 Km away from Jagdalpur

Purani Basti of Raipur is one of the oldest known civilisations of the present India. The name translates to “Old Colony” In English and it is regarded as one of the richest cultural bases of Central India.

Highlights – It is believed that the parent of barter system “Turi hatri” the first commercial market for fruits and vegetables began here; it was also a hub of business fairs and auto-expos. Visitors may think what is great about this place, but there are many things to see in the immediate vicinity like the Modern markets, malls, stadiums, race course, gym, Sports club and local fairs. Apart from this, the place holds a special significance as the “Nadi Pahad” – a famous game was invented here.
