Amber Palace

Amber is a fort palace which is located at about 24 kms from Jaipur airport. It is made of red sandstone and marble. It is known for its picturesque landscape and the majestically standing fort with Maota lake as its backdrop. 

It is a wonderful display of the lifestyle of the royals of Jaipur. It is open for visitors between 8 am to 5.30 pm and is an wonderful place filled with museums and historical monuments and the night light and sound show is one of the must see experiences of Jaipur.

City Palace

Jaipur the land of royals is home to many palaces. Among the palaces in Jaipur the City Palace has served a greater role in the history of Rajasthan and till today is the residence of the royal family. Built between 1729 and 1732, it is a palace complex which comprises of the Mubarak Mahal and the Chandra Mahal. 

The architectural style is an amazing combination of Rajasthani, Mughal and European architecture. This palace gained popularity when Sawai Man Singh II moved here from his official residence at Amber in 1727.

The Pitam Niwas Chowk which leads to the Chandra Mahal is a finely decorated place with motifs of peacock which represent autumn. While Diwan-I-Khas is the private audience hall of the Maharajas, Diwan-I-Aam is the hall of public audience. Maharani’s Palace has been converted from being the home of queens to a museum which display weapons and ammunition used by the royal family during the wars. 

City Palace is one among the palaces of Jaipur is one of the major landmarks of Jaipur which has a rich historical heritage.

Rambagh Palace

Rambagh one among the famous Palaces of Jaipur, is located about 8 kms away from the city. The residence of Maharaja of Jaipur is today converted into one of the finest Taj hotels. Although initial construction in the year 1835 was only a garden house for the wet nurse of prince Ram Singh, later on by 1887 it was converted into a hunting lodge.

However, later on in the 20th century it was converted into the official residence of Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II with additional rooms and royal suites. 

Sprawling over 47 acres of land with beautiful landscape is now one of the finest hotels. The elegantly decorated palace rooms reflect the Rajasthani culture and are equipped with modern amenities.

Rajmahal Palace

Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II built the Rajmahal Palace for his beloved wife in the year 1729. Though initially called Ma Ji Ka Bagh, later on in 1821 it was renamed as the Residency. 

However this was converted into a hotel which serves the tourists who visit Jaipur. The political situation reduced this palace to a mere guest house. However when Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II moved his residence from Rambagh Palace to Rajmahal Palace it regained its glory.

Although the guest list of this palace includes the most famous personalities, in 1980 the palace was converted into a hotel and since then has become an integral part of Jaipur tourism.

Samode Palace

Samode, one of the large towns in Rajasthan basically belonged to  Zamindars. In the sixteenth century it was built as a Rajput fort. However during the early 19th century, under the leadership of Rawal Berisal, this place was converted into a palace built in fusion of Rajput and Muslim architectural style.

The Durbar Hall which is extravagantly decorated was added later on with a gallery and the Sheesh Mahal which is also known as the hall of mirrors. The landscape around this palace is a sight to watch. However in 1987 this palace was converted into the Samode Palace Hotel , which to this date is part of Jaipur tourism.

Hari Mahal Palace

The Hari Mahal one among the beautiful Palaces of Jaipur was basically the city residence of Rajadhiraj Hari Singh of the Achrol family. It dates back to the year 193o. Elegant and stylishly decorated a part of the palace is still occupied by the family members while the other half is converted into a heritage hotel that represents the culture of Rajasthan.

Hawa Mahal

Hawa Mahal meaning the Palace of Winds is one of the famous palaces in Jaipur. Built in 1798 by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh has a five storey exterior and the windows are decorated with intricate lattice work which was meant for the royal ladies to observe the daily life of the commoners. Situated in the heart of the city, it is a part of the City Palace.

Jaipur being the city of royals has had a wonderful and spectacular past during the time of Maharajas. However today being a part of tourism most of the palaces of Jaipur are converted to star hotels which are some of the best places to stay.

Distance: 12 kms from the Jaipur airport.

Visiting hours: 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Jal Mahal

Standing tall and majestic in the middle of the Man Sagar Lake is the most famous structure in Jaipur- the Jal Mahal. It is a beautiful and romantic sight to behold as it floats in the shimmering blue lake. The actual palace is off-limits for tourists but you can nevertheless enjoy the beautiful location by taking strolls along the pathways around the mahal. 

An evening stroll here is a wonderful experience. The pretty scene come alive as the setting sun casts its pale-golden rays over the pink sandstone and blue waters and birds flock all over the place. The location around the Jal Mahal is decorated with royal chhatris and cenotaphs that make for picturesque sights too. Photography around this area is a rewarding experience because there are so many delightful images to capture. This mahal is one of the Jaipur sightseeing places you must visit.
