Must-Visit Places for Dussehra in Pune

Pune comes alive with lights, colors, and celebrations during Dussehra, the festival of victory and valour. The city is full of energy, with streets decorated beautifully and the smell of festive food in the air. One of the most striking features of the Dusshera celebration in Pune is the dramatic burning of Ravana’s statue in areas like Sangvi, Pimple Saudagar, and Magarpatta Chowk. These events draw huge crowds, with tall models of Ravana set ablaze to symbolise the triumph of good over evil.

Many temples, including the Shri Mahalaxmi Temple at Saras Baug and the Hare Krishna Mandir in Camp, organise special pujas, aartis, and devotional gatherings. The Sadhu Vaswani Mission hosts spiritual talks, satsangs, and vehicle puja, which attract devotees seeking a more peaceful observance.

Traditional customs such as exchanging apta leaves and worshipping vehicles are considered a symbol of prosperity, and are still followed. For many people, shopping for new vehicles, electronics, and household items is also part of the tradition, as Dussehra is seen as an auspicious time for new beginnings. The festival adds to the list of cultural things to do in Pune during this vibrant season.
