The duration of the summer season varies from state to state in the region, but generally speaking, the months of April, May and June mark the presence of the season in the region.

The winter season in most parts of the region begins around the end of October month and lasts till the beginning of March.  

While some parts of northeast India experience cold winters with low temperatures, other parts of the region feature extremely cold climate with night temperatures touching a minimum of minus 10 at nights. In the lower altitude regions, the winter season is a great time to explore the pretty hill stations and unique tribal cultures. The monsoon season normally arrives in northeast India on the conclusion of June month and drenches the valley and hills up to September.

The region exhibits the character of the tropical climate and experiences rainfalls that range from heavy to extremely heavy.
