Visa Details

Indian tourists visiting Japan must obtain a Japan Tourist Visa, which allows a stay of up to 90 days for sightseeing and leisure. It is available as a single or multiple-entry visa and must be applied for through VFS Global. The application requires a valid passport (at least six months validity), a completed visa form, passport-sized photographs, flight tickets, hotel bookings, financial documents, and a cover letter detailing the trip purpose.

The visa fee is INR 500, with an additional INR 800 VFS service charge. Processing usually takes 5–10 working days. Including a Japan itinerary 10 days with hotel reservations and a return ticket can strengthen the application.

Japan Rail Pass

The Japan Rail Pass (JR Pass) is a budget-friendly option for unlimited travel on JR trains, Shinkansen (bullet trains), and select buses and ferries. Available for 7, 14, or 21 days, it comes in Standard and Green Car (First-Class) options.

To be eligible, tourists must enter Japan under Temporary Visitor status. The pass must be purchased before arrival and exchanged at a JR office. While it covers most Shinkansen, Nozomi and Mizuho trains require a separate ticket. For long-distance travel, the JR Pass offers convenience, flexibility, and significant cost savings across Japan.

Currency

The Japanese Yen (JPY, ¥) is the official currency of Japan and has been in use since 1871. Banknotes are available in ¥1,000, ¥2,000, ¥5,000, and ¥10,000, while coins come in ¥1, ¥5, ¥10, ¥50, ¥100, and ¥500.

Japan is largely a cash-based society, and many smaller businesses accept only yen. While credit cards are widely accepted in major stores and hotels, ATMs at convenience stores and post offices allow cash withdrawals. As of today, 1 Japanese Yen is equal to approximately 0.58 Indian Rupee.

The snow driving was extremely fun. Cannot explain enough how much I am happy with the entire experience. The guide was really very supportive and they took great care of the entire activity.
