Situated on the Thalassery beach and perched on a rocky cliff, the Tellicherry Fort is one of the most ancient places to visit in Kannur. Square in shape and surrounded by massive stone walls that have been caved intricately, the fort is a tourist hotbed for cultural and architectural enthusiasts. 

The fort also features a beautiful lighthouse that provides stunning views of the nearby landscape. Art lovers will find attending the gallery inside the complex hosting several caves, monuments and ancient paintings a brilliant way to spend an afternoon.

Dating back to 1869, St. John's Anglican Church is located in Thalassery, near the historical Thalassery Fort. Also known as the English Church, it was built by Sir Edward Brennan, a notable British leader. The church is a fine example of the Gothic Revival style of architecture. During your visit, see the onsite cemetery, which houses the graves of colonial-era officials. You can also see the grave of Brennan, with his epitaph "The Sterling Upright Englishman." This church is a great place to witness architectural beauty and learn about history. 

Discover the historic Gundert Bungalow, a colonial architectural gem in Thalassery. It is named after Dr. Hermann Gundert, a German missionary. This is where he crafted the first Malayalam dictionary. This 19th-century colonial bungalow offers a peek into Kerala’s rich linguistic heritage. It also serves as a serene getaway with its scenic hilltop views overlooking the Arabian Sea.

Famous as Kerala’s only drive-in beach, the Muzhappilangad offers some of the most stunning views of the yellow and orange sun setting along the golden sandy beaches of Malabar coast. 

The 4 km stretch of land running along the ocean is perfect for taking a romantic, leisurely stroll with your partner or just drive on the beach and soak in the naked natural splendour around. 

Photography enthusiasts can take breathtaking shots of the ocean and food lovers can munch on authentic Malabar snacks sold on the beach.

Wellesley’s Bungalow is the home of Lord Arthur Wellesley, who popularised cricket in the region. It is located near the Thalassery Fort and dates back to the 1700s. This colonial-era mansion captivates with its architectural elegance and historical significance. It was once a cricket ground for the nobility, and boasts of picturesque settings. It is a must-visit for anyone keen on exploring Kerala’s colonial past and cricket heritage.
