Rajkot Fort, which is also called Malvan Castle, is situated on a rocky outcropping northwest of Malvan town with three of its four sides being surrounded by water. The fort, which was built by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj between 1664 and 1667, was an outpost to protect the nearby Sindhudurg Fort.
The fort is mostly destroyed now, but one bastion still stands with a flagpole that warns boats of the extremely rocky coast. People here can enjoy a beautiful rock garden, where the waves crash against the rocks and make for a great view of the sunset. Nearby they can visit a temple to Mauni Maharaj alongside a temple to Lord Ganesh which houses a pure gold idol. One of the most popular new sights today is the huge, 91-foot-tall metal statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj with a dramatic 29-foot sword.
