Places to Visit in Keylong

An important high mountain pass in the Lahaul Spiti Region, the Bara-Lacha La (Pass) is one of best-known tourist places in Keylong. Perched on a height of 4,890 m above sea level, the Bara-Lacha pass is an important location as it is located at a point where the valleys of Lahaul and Ladakh meet each other.

When you are traveling from Manali to Leh (or vice versa), the Bara-Lacha Pass is where you enter into Jammu and Kashmir from Himachal Pradesh. Aside from the strategic importance of this point, the beauty of the pass is simply breathtaking.

A silent water body in the valley as you pass through the Highway between Leh and Manali, Deepak Tal is particularly known amongst the various places to visit in Keylong. This is especially because the waters of this glacial lake remain calm, reflecting the serene surroundings of snowcapped peaks and dusty hills.

Located at a height of about 3,750m above sea level, the lake forms a perfect retreat for the riders who pass by, making it one of the best places to visit in Keylong.

Located in a village of the same name, Kardang Monastery is considered to be the most important monastery in the valley of Lahaul. A white facade decorated with prayer flags in their traditional colors is what greets the visitors as they arrive at this beautiful monastery. Located in the foothill of Rangcha Peak, this 900-year-old monastery belongs to the well-known Drukpa Lineage and was built on the left bank of the Bhaga River.

In the monastery, you will find thankas, musical instruments such as flutes, drums, horns, as well as old weapons, colorful frescoes and a number of wall murals.
