Bhakra Dam is in Sutlej River in Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh and it is a concrete gravity dam. The height of the dam is 226 meters and a width of 9.1 meters and a length of 518.25 meters make this dam one of the biggest and largest in India.The reservoir in it, Gobind Sagar has a capacity to store 9.34 billion cubic meters of water and it is the third largest reservoir in India. Bhakra Dam is most often called as Bhakra-Nangal Dam since Nangal Dam is also located near to Bhakra and it has attracted quite a good number of tourists every year. Bhakra helps in the development of various fields in the northern part of India, namely irrigation, electricity generation and fishing. During monsoon the dam gets filled fast and that is the picture perfect feature of the dam.
