  • This very special trip provides a rare insight into the delicate and charming conditions that for many visitors appear close to being an earthly paradise.
  • You will spend two weeks up and down the four high valleys that together make up the region, visiting many of the holiest sites in the country.
  • Trekking through the valleys, you will be able to observe how Bumthang's legacy filters through into everyday life.
  • As you experience an intimate local Buddhist festival it is easy to become transported far away from more worldly preoccupations.

Itinerary

  • Day 1 - Arrive at Paro

  • Day 2 -

    Visit Paro/Thimphu

    Visit to Ta Dzong Museum (with optional hike to Zuri Temple) and visit the different traditional handicraft workshops along with a trip to the National Library.

  • Day 3 -

    Visit Thimphu

    Explore town and the National Museum, Painting School and TashichoDzong

  • Day 4 -

    Trip to Trongsa

    Mountain panorama at Dochu La pass, Wangdiphodrang, Pele La pass and ChendebjiChorten

  • Day 5 -

    Visit to Trongsa/Ura, TrongsaDzong and visit Yathra weaving centers

  • Day 6 -

    Visit Ura and attend the local festival, explore village and absorb atmosphere

  • Day 7 -

    Start Trek to Jenyergang

    Climb through changing vegetation over Shangmey La Pass (12,188 feet) and enjoy the magnificent view of Ura Valley and other major Himalayan peaks.

  • Day 8 -

    Trek to Ugyencholing

    Descend Tang Valley to palace and village

  • Day 9 -

    Make a trip to Meadow Camp

    Gentle progress up valley

  • Day 10 -

    Trip to Ngalhakang

    Pass over Phephe La Pass (11,647 feet) to "Swan Temple"

  • Day 11 -

    Visit to vNgalhakang

    Enjoy local village hospitality, visit ancient Shabjethang temple

  • Day 12 -

    Trip to Jakar

    Pass famous temple at Thangbi and end the trek beforyou visit KurjeLhakhang

  • Day 13 -

    Bumthang and walking tour of sacred valley

  • Day 14 -

    Trip to Gangteng

    Enter the hidden valley of Phobjikha and visit home to important GangtengGompa monastery and (in winter) black-necked cranes

  • Day 15 -

    Visit to Phobjikha/Thimphu

    Hike to surrounding villages and spend a free afternoon in the capital

    Visit to Thimphu/Paro

    Free morning and a preliminary exploration of Paro Valley

    Hike towards famous Taktsang monastery
