Built-in 1911, the Elbetunnel is an underground tunnel created to start a new pathway that helped people cross the river. The tunnel featured technological advancement during these times, making it easier for people to pass through this 80 feet tunnel through elevators. The tunnel has also been renovated many times in the last century and is also one of the protected monuments since 2003. The tunnel was used by the people of the city to explore many parts of the port area or to reach Wilhelmsburg or Altes Land.
