Bukit Lawang Overview
A small tourist village, Bukit Lawang is popular because it is the largest animal sanctuary of Sumatran Orangutan. In 1973, Bukit Lawang rehabilitation center was established for orangutans with the main goal of preserving decreasing number of Orangutans due to hunting.

Highlights: Bukit Lawang is home to around 500 orangutans and is famous for Orangutan conservation. Feeding Orangutans are done daily between 08:00 and 15:00 and it is a great opportunity to take amazing pictures of Orangutans munching on bananas. Bukit Lawang gives you the opportunity to go on a jungle trek and explore different plants and animals. You can also shop a variety of items in the place such as picture frames, coconut necklaces, keychains, wood carvings and batik paintings among other things.

Location: Bukit Lawang is situated 90 km northwest of Medan, the capital city of North Sumatra, Indonesia.
